The economic crises of past years and, above all, the one that the pandemic is leaving us with, put the economic fabric, employment and social balances in the EU at risk. However, in the recovery, alongside these risks, important opportunities for change can open up: worker involvement and participation in enterprises is one example. Often developed in the form of cooperatives and with the support and accompaniment of trade unions, such involvement can act as a driving force for a new concept of enterprise and industrial relations.
In many EU countries, however, this system meets with resistance and difficulties.
It is therefore necessary that the forthcoming European Social Economy Action Plan be accompanied by the collective commitment of all actors, starting with trade unions and the cooperative system, in order to overcome barriers and mutual distrust.
The main objective of this workshop is, therefore, to bring together the two main protagonists, the trade unions and the cooperative system, to reflect on the reference framework, learn about and enhance good practices and work together, contributing to the development of a positive synergy that will strengthen and relaunch an innovative social dialogue to better address the many challenges of the future.
